Eye-catching fashion and textiles at Graduate Fashion Week

It was encouraging to see other textile collections at Graduate Fashion Week on stands such as Bristol University (above)- It's not just about garments collections!

It was really interesting to see at GFW just how differently and creatively the different universities had designed the layout and structure of their stands. There were lots of quirky ways of displaying things such as the bicycle above and ironing boards to display portfolios and postcards as shown below.

I felt that De Montford University's stand was particularly impressive. I liked how the mannequins were on different staggered levels, the creative backdrop and I thought it looked really professional.

I like the detail on the mannequin's head - the head-piece is beautiful and really unique

Hugo Boss sends a bolt through Shanghai

Hugo Boss unveiled its winter 2013 BOSS collection four days ago in Shanghai. Over 1,000 guests were in attendance at the exclusive event, including The Great Gatsby star Carey Mulligan. There was definitely

The show was streamed live across the globe and the brand has released a small number of limited edition pieces available to buy straight from the runway.Apparently there are only 100 pieces available worldwide!

Besides France and a few select countries in Asia, Australia is the only other country in the world to be privy to the exclusive collection, which is now available at Melbourne's BOSS Shop Crown.

The setting of the Power Station of Art was an inspired choice. Electric charges pulsated through the thousand-strong audience, and lightning bolts crashed overhead while models—like show opener Joan Smalls—strutted across the zigzagged runway in Boss’ Fall ’13 wares.

I think the staging and the dramatic runway is a really striking and innovative way of exhibiting the Hugo Boss line.

“We’ve been in China for a long time,” said Boss menswear designer Kevin Lobo. “But it’s changing dramatically, becoming more luxurious, and we want to be a part of that.”

Limited-edition pieces were available to buy directly from the runway. The stringent tailoring and languid silks in jewel tones were perfectly attuned to the tastes of China’s über-wealthy, who are trading obvious luxury for something more subtle. Boss womenswear designer Eyan Allen offered, “We created a zip made from 24-carat gold. You know it’s there, but nobody else does!”
